The Chinese People's Police University (hereinafter referred to as the Police University) is a full-time higher education institution directly under the Ministry of Public Security. It was formerly known as the Chinese People's Armed Police Force Academy. It was established on April 24, 1981 with the approval of the State Council. It is the earliest higher education institution in China with a fire protection degree. In 2013, with the approval of the National Higher Education Self-study Examination Steering Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, the fire engineering major (independent undergraduate section) of the higher education self-study examination was opened to the whole country. The Police University is currently the only examiner school in the country for the fire engineering major of the self-study examination.

The school has obvious advantages in disciplines and majors, strong teachers, standardized teaching management, complete teaching facilities, and superior school conditions. It has 6 fire protection undergraduate majors and 7 master's programs. Since serving as the self-examination school for fire engineering majors, it has been connected with provincial education examination institutes.
